SUBJECT: WHAT'S GOOD MACHIDA?

Hmmm, the weeks go by so quick I can hardly remember what happened.
Hah, it's already close to transfer week and I feel like I just moved
here to Machida! We'll see though. Hopefully it's not another 1
transfer and out like Fujisawa. There are some really great people
here! Anyways, we went to Shonandai (Fujisawas church) and got our new
"official" iPads for missionary work and there pretty nice. It's
always good to see everyone from old days of the mission and come
together for these kind of events. My man from the Mission Office,
Elder Lobocarro, came down and gave us a training, and I also talked
with a former companion, Elder Bunker about some good times. The
weather is beautiful right now by the way. It's not too humid yet and
it's bright and sunny outside. However, in about 2 weeks, I'll
probably be sweating bullets and feelin all types of humidity.
Yup, we also did a few visits to non-members and less-actives this
week which was fun. Well, we actually didn't have any success until
the last one, but that was a lot of fun. They invited us right in and
immediately fed us some food without us asking. They are a way funny
less active couple and their son was there too which was great. The
Bishop had been wanting us to visit this great family and so it was a
good success to see them and their son there as well. The couple are
way opposite in their likes and dislikes and makes for a hilarious
bunch of conversations! And at the end we shared a video on prayer and
told them all about how it's helped us in our lives. They still said
it's impossible to come to church, but we committed them to pray and
if that can help them out even a little bit, I'll be happy.
We also had a great lesson with Suzuki さん and he is really thinking
about baptism now. He seemed to have some problems and concerns with
it in the past but we were able to make some ground with our one and
only real investigator at the moment. This is a rough area for new
investigators, but we're doing our best and talking to all these
wonderful Japanese folk.
Had a great day at church yesterday and got to hear some nice
talks. Finally I can understand a little bit of what's going on at
church, haha. The Japanese language is a beast of a language. But I
have a love for it and the incredible people that live here.
Rough days, but a Happy Mission.

Love you all!

Subject: Yeah, that was this week

Yup, so pretty much all the pictures and the video describes this week
well. We went out and did some finding in a new place (for me) at
South Machida station. And went to a nearby outlet mall area and
talked with some great people as well as got some contact info. Oh
yeah, and just this morning, we got to participate in this wards early
morning Seminary class with the youth. There's only about 5-6 students
but it was cool to join in and try helping out a bit there. We will
probably be doing that once a week from here out too. Fun stuff!
Yeahhh, have a good one!

SUBJECT: This week. In Machida

So, another week goes by and it's another week of being a
missionary in Japan. Good stuff. Anyways, since we just have one
investigator we're teaching right now, we've been housing streeting
and handing out flyers to try and find more people with any interest.
Or anyone that believes in God for that matter, haha. In this area
there's a good mix of people ranging from students and even young
kids, to adults and grandpas. There's a nice variety and it's cool to
have that little balance of trying to talk to a variety of people.
However, we have been getting rejected quite a bit here in Machida.
This whole district has been having it a little rough on finding new
investigators but we're working hard to search out those prepared
people.
But we did have the chance to teach a man named Suzuki here who
has been investigating/coming to church for about a year! But doesn't
want to be baptized. He likes church things and enjoys the things he
learns, but when baptism comes up he just gets really nervous. Now, I
haven't been in a lesson with him asking about baptism yet but it says
on his teaching record several times that whenever they mention
baptism after explaining it really well and trying to make it clear
that it's just a step towards heaven/God/one of his commandments, he
gets very nervous. Anyways, he has a slight mental problem and we're
going to see just how we can help him out with his concerns as we
continue to meet with him. But yeah, he's a really nice and great guy!
We also had an awesome opportunity to meet with my man Toguchi
from my last area Fujisawa! He came up to visit and discuss more
gospel things such as prayer, because he's been struggling with it
just a bit. He really is progressing well both in life and in the
Gospel. It's good to see. He came up to Machida and brought us Root
Beer because he knows I'm American and I love it, haha! We had a good
talk and he said we helped him out with his concerns on prayer. Sweet.
Got to bear some testimony and tell him why we pray and the things we
can pray for. We also went to a Yakiniku place which was delicious.
It's been some time...and dang it was good.
Yup, so lastly, the apartment and companion are doing good. We're
both just being more happy all around and trying to keep our spirits
up even though there's a lot of rejection lately. There's a bit of
differences between us but we're closing the gap day by day. Yeahhh,
always good stuff to learn on the Mission. Here's to another week!
Byeeee

SUBJECT: MACHIDA

And oh how the weeks fly by! I am now moved into Machida and am in
my first two-man apartment (usually 4 to an apartment up to this
point) with my Japanese companion Elder Kojima. It's a cozy place and
we've had the chance to visit a few areas for proselyting this week.
But first, before leaving Fujisawa, I was able to talk with and meet a
few friends I had made in Fujisawa.
Dang, I've never spent just one transfer in an area! I wish I
could have had more time in Fujisawa but it's good to know that I made
some good friends and I had the opportunity to chat with some great
people there. And speaking of that, there was a ward member who I sent
a picture of in a previous email named Bro. Kawamura. The first time
we went over to his place we made a little promise that we would have
pizza together before I left (expecting that time to be a bit longer
than it was, hah). So after we told him I was leaving, he told us to
come over Wednesday night to have the pizza he promised, haha! It was
a nice last time to meet because since we never know our transfer
plans until after Sunday, it's hard to meet and talk with the members
one last time before leaving. So yeah, nice little event.
Besides that, it was a lot of packing with Elder Connell (who was
also transferring) and doing whatever we could before transferring
out. So now, I am in Machida and it brings more opportunities and
places to proselyte along with it. It's been pretty decent. Me and
Elder Kojima are a bit different...actually very different. So we're
trying our best to work together and hopefully we can improve
throughout the transfer. It is nice to have a Japanese companion again
though. More opportunities to speak Japanese and try to improve at
teaching directly to a Japanese person. Who needs English anyways?
Just kidding I do. Haha
Right now we don't have any investigators, so we plan to do a lot
of finding. And on another note, I got to meet the ward yesterday
which was great. There are some really awesome people here and I was
able to hit it off with them which is sweet. Good Ward = Happier
Missionaries. So that's a nice plus. I haven't seen too much of the
area yet but there's a good amount of people. Also, there are more
hills here than I've seen since Kamiooka which is gonna help me rock
some Thunder Thighs again hopefully. I like hills. Tough to go up, but
feels so great going back down. Yeahh, so that's what I got this week.
Bye!
